Underwater Photography: Turning my body into a Floating Platform.

What I find most exciting about the Underwater Photography is the experience of my body turning into a Floating Platform on which the Camera Rests and the magic starts to happen…

The film and the photography for me is a tool, a way of looking at things … a means of recording my self-exploration… and it gives me a broader chance to gain knowledge from my experience, it helps me to understand my presence within the environment.

I have experimented a lot and most of all enjoyed free diving with my Nikon…  I have used the aquatic plastic bag for protection against the water; and because it traps some of the air inside, when I want to descend deeper in my dive I have to actually use the pressure of my whole body. It is sort of a playful battle, which I always win; but then again; when I let go, I surface easily back up to the real world.  It is a fantastic feeling. A very special way of floating and capturing the energy of the sea just slightly below the surface… I can’t quite describe it …  its magical. It puts my mind and body in a special, pure state…  I have also directed a short film about the plastic pollution in the sea.  I have filmed it in a little town of Corralejo in Fuerteventura.  It was a fantastic experience.  I would love to do more of that in the future.

The outcome is always a surprise, which brings a lot of excitement and positive anticipation to the whole experience.
